KC Welcomes our Team

  Some of our potential KC church planting team members had dinner together last night on the plaza in downtown KC.  The temperature was 71 degrees, the trees were in bloom, the outdoor patio of the restaurant was open and the torches were lit outside.  The city looked "sexy."  Seriously, KC was rolling out the welcome mat for our team last night.

Some of the statements made by potential team members over a great Mexican dinner at Baha 600:

• "Raising money is freaking me out!"
• "I feel closer to God these past few weeks while I have been considering taking this risk then I have ever felt in my life."
• "I want to believe in a God that would ask me to risk it all."
• "I never thought I would be here having this conversation."
• "It is beginning to feel like it would be disobedient to God to say no to this."
• "If you like the people you are working with, the paycheck doesn't matter."
• "The day after Troy asked me to consider this opportunity and I realized it involved raising support, I got a $500 check in the mail from someone who said that God told him to send me this money."

The principal called

When the High School welcomed us at the front desk, saying, "you must be the McMahons," they had us at hello.  But then the next day after our visit, the principal called.  "Do you have any questions?" He asked.  This principal has it going on.  My kids actually feel like the school wants them and is excited to have them there.  Cool.  Good lessons here for church first impressions and follow up.

Building a Team

We are in KC for the week.  There are 15 of us, including children, coming at various times throughout the week.  God is building a team.

Please pray for these families and individuals who are asking God to confirm for them His calling to the Kansas City area.

It's all about first impressions

How do you choose a High School for your kids?  We are in Kansas City, there are two high schools in the area we want to live in. We set up meetings with both high schools.  We went to the first high school, got a tour, talked to the counselor.  The kids were like....yeah, it's okay.  Then we went to the 2nd high school.  We walked in the front door, went to the check-in desk, said we had an appointment, and the guy at the desk said, "oh, you must be the McMahon's!" 

The principal toured us around the school.  Said he was biased about which is the best school of the two...but he had reason to be biased.  He graduated from that school, taught math at that school, became the principal, graduated all three of his kids from that high school.  He loves not only the school, but the community.

He gave Jake and Mitch all the attention, Troy and I were just there.  He handed Jake and Mitch his business card at the end of the meeting and wrote his home number on the back, in case they had any questions after school hours.

If I didn't know any better, I would have thought it was a private school and the over the top attention was an effort to recruit our kids so they could get even more tuition money.

We were sold.  This will be our high school.  First impression is everything.

Church Planter's Assessment

Troy and I just completed day one of our church planter's assessment.  We have met some really amazing people!

I shouldn't say we have "completed" day one, because now I am back in our hotel room preparing for the church service we will lead tomorrow.  We will be team teaching.  Thanks to the big idea we have a major head start on the message. bet you can't guess what the topic will be....yep, Designer _ _ _!  This should be fun.

 

Finally...

My house is finished...well "finished" is relative, I guess I should say I decided to stop now.  It is on the market, and if I do say so myself it is really CUTE.  Check it out here.  And if you know someone who wants to buy it, send them my way.

Is it possible to have a relationship with a house?  If so, my house feels like an old friend.  A friend  who I have come to love just as she is with all her quirks and imperfections.  And a friend who loves me.  Just when I need it, she is there to provide comfort and safety.  I know that is a bit over dramatic, but oh well, it is how I feel.  And lately I have decided when I have a feeling, I am just going to go ahead and feel it...cause if I don't I am sure all my feelings will come at once, at an inconvenient time, and they will overwhelm  me.

I need my life back

  Getting a 47 year old home that I have lived in with three kids and a husband for 12 years, ready to go on the market for sale, is no small thing.  It has taken every available minute and a few dollars to get this place ready.  I am tired and grouchy as a result.  But the truth is, it looks great...mostly.  There is still more to do, but I have to stop sometime and just say enough. 

I have ignored work, my kids, my husband, my friends....now I need my life back.

Then there is the keeping it clean part.  Keeping a house picked up with everything in its place all the time, everyday.  Well...let's just say, it will be a stretch.

Perhaps we can sell in just 24 hours.  Cause that is about the entire length of time it is possible to keep it neat and clean...and even that is pushing it.

Got to go...off to Home Depot.  Somebody stop me!!
